Understand the concern. Discuss the next step.

Our future location
Evaluation comes before a decision about removal
Our current surgical service plans focus on lumps and moles, along with skin cancer care. The appropriate next step depends on the concern, examination, and any relevant test results. Monitoring, additional testing, removal, or referral may be discussed according to the individual situation.
Lumps and moles
A consultation will assess the area you are concerned about and review changes or symptoms. Not every growth needs removal, and appearance alone does not settle which approach is appropriate.
Skin cancer concerns
A suspicious spot needs assessment. If you already have a diagnosis, previous biopsy or pathology results can help inform the conversation about treatment and follow-up.
Explore skin checksQuestions about a procedure
Before any recommended procedure, ask why it is being considered, what alternatives exist, and what to expect during healing. The location and nature of the concern can affect the plan.
Planning for follow-up
Care does not end with a procedure. Questions about wound care, results, follow-up visits, and who to contact should be part of the discussion before treatment.
Prepare for a useful consultation
01
Explain what has changed
Note when you first noticed the area, whether it has grown or changed, and any symptoms. Bring photographs if they help show its history.
02
Bring relevant records
If another practice has evaluated or sampled the area, bring the report or arrange for records to be available. Include your medications and allergies.
03
Discuss the recommendation
Ask about the proposed next step, anticipated recovery, potential scarring, and follow-up. Specific procedures available at Horizon will be confirmed closer to opening.
Questions before your visit
Will every mole need to be removed?
No. The next step depends on the assessment. Some concerns may be monitored, while others may need further evaluation or removal.
Does a consultation guarantee a procedure that day?
No. Evaluation, treatment planning, and the procedure itself may require separate appointments. Timing will depend on the concern and available services.
Should I wait for Horizon to open to have a concerning spot checked?
No. If you have a new, changing, bleeding, or otherwise concerning spot, arrange an assessment with a currently available clinician rather than waiting for our opening.
